About the Artist

Kathy Mittan is a self-taught working artist...
...who paints in acrylic, oil, pastels, graphite and colored pencil.
She also has taken a fondness to pallet knife painting and paint pouring media. She has had professional experience in graphic design and as a fine artist. Her love of animals has inspired her to paint wildlife and cherished pets. Her style is both abstract in the pouring technique and realistic in fine arts. Her style is vivid and realistic, capturing the heart and soul of each one of her subjects.
As a young girl, every notebook and piece of scrap paper was filled with animal and horse drawings in the margins. It truly seemed inevitable that she would become an artist one day. But she chose a different life journey and spent the next 30 years following another passion...the love and dream of riding and competing horses.
Artist Statement
"Horses kept me pretty busy and for a long time my easel sat empty. Eventually, my love for creating art gripped me and I discovered just how much I loved it and realized that this was something I needed to do."
"I have a deep love for wildlife and domestic animals especially horses, cats and dogs. There's nothing more rewarding than capturing the soft, soulful expressions in an animal's eye."
"When I create art, whether it's with paints, pastels or colored pencil, I'm simply happy and I hope I can bring happiness to others through my art."

"Kathy creates beautiful life-like art. Her work has such expression and soul. The pet portraits truly capture the personality of each fur baby, making them more than just a picture but a treasure for your heart. She is an exceptionally gifted artist." -Robin Dayon, New Bedford, MA
"Kathy has captured Octavius's majestic beauty, strength and calm personality. She has
great skills which is clearly evident in the richness and depth of colors and strong lines.
Thank you for this lovely painting. I truly love it and it will always have a special place in
my home." -Ann Grenier, Fayette, ME
"We absolutely love the pastel Kathy created of our two furbabes, Chocolate Lab Scout and Chesapeake Daizey. Kathy perfectly captured the easy going, open, fun loving Lab in Scout and the most serious, almost regal Chessie in Daizey. It was a surprise gift for my husband and is now a treasured family article. Now that the girls are almost seniors, we hope to ask Kathy to create another likeness of our girls we can also treasure. -Caroline & Dennis Dorr, Walpole, ME
"Kathy's technical-expert painting skills are inspirational. Her animal portraits capture the 'life' of her subjects. It is my privilege and joy to know this fine artist and daily enjoy her excellent artworks; heart-warming and delightful!" -CG Meeker, Lakeside Light Design Studio
